Coaching Staff
Lynne Abernathy, Head Coach
Coach Abernathy started teaching and coaching in 1980. She played collegiate volleyball and basketball at Livingston University. She has coached softball, basketball and tennis all at the high school level. In 1994, she started coaching tennis at HHS and continues as the Head Coach of both the boys and girls programs. In the past 15 years, Coach Abernathy has produced 11 City Championships and or runner-up finishes, 12 Sectional Championships or runner-ups and 1 State Runner-up finish along with 9 finishes in the top 5.
Coach Payne comes to Huntsville High School from Grissom High where he served as the Boys Head Coach for 9 years and led the Tigers to 9 City Championships, 8 Sectional Championships. In 9 appearances in the state tournament, his teams have finished in the top 5. We welcome Coach Payne to HHS.
Coach Sienicki graduated from HHS in 1979. In 1984 she graduated with a B.S. degree from UAB. Coach Sienicki began working with the HHS Tennis program in 2003. In 2006, Coach Sienicki was awarded the Alabama Junior Coordinator of the Year by the USTA for her role in developing Junior Team Tennis in the area. Both of her sons, Austin and Will have played for the HHS Tennis teams.
